The Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, on Tuesday emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) must be used positively and ethically for the welfare of humanity, while addressing a national conference titled “AI Development – AI Ka Mahakumbh” in New Delhi.
The high-level conference was organized at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Outlook Magazine. The event witnessed the participation of leading scientists, researchers, academicians, policymakers, and students from across the country.
AI Is No Longer the Future, It Is the Present: Vice President
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President stated that Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day reality, impacting critical sectors such as healthcare diagnostics, climate modeling, governance, education, finance, and national security.
He noted that AI is reshaping society and redefining how people live and work, and stressed the need to adapt swiftly to technological advancements.
Responsible Use of Technology Is a Collective Responsibility
Highlighting the dual nature of technological progress, Shri Radhakrishnan said every innovation comes with both positive and negative aspects. Drawing parallels with the early days of computer technology, he remarked that initial resistance eventually gave way to transformation.
“Our responsibility lies in ensuring that technology is used constructively and creatively for societal benefit,” he said.
India Emerging as a Global Leader in AI
The Vice President asserted that India is rapidly emerging as one of the leading nations in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Warning against complacency, he urged the country to move in step with developed nations and remain competitive in the global AI race.
He expressed confidence that India’s talent pool and innovation ecosystem will enable it to guide the world in responsible AI development.
AI Should Be Part of School and College Curriculum
On the occasion, the Vice President launched an AI curriculum and expressed satisfaction over its introduction. He strongly advocated for making AI an integral part of school and college education.
According to him, early exposure to AI will equip students with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and future-ready competencies, essential for a technology-driven world.
He further emphasized that educational institutions must evolve as AI knowledge hubs, keeping pace with rapid technological changes and emerging as centers of excellence and innovation.
India’s Demographic Advantage Can Drive AI Leadership
Highlighting India’s demographic strength, the Vice President pointed out that nearly 65% of India’s population is below the age of 35. If harnessed effectively, this demographic dividend can position India as a global AI powerhouse.
He stated that AI will play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a self-reliant, inclusive, and technologically empowered “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Ethical and Human-Centric AI Is the Need of the Hour
Stressing the importance of ethical and responsible AI, Shri Radhakrishnan said that no scientific advancement should harm humanity. The ultimate goal of technology, he added, must be to help people live happier, more prosperous, and dignified lives.
He concluded by expressing confidence that India, guided by its values, vision, and talent, will not only adopt AI responsibly but also help shape the future of the world.

The conference was attended by Delhi Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, AICTE Professor T.G. Sitaraman, Outlook Magazine’s Shri Sandeep Ghosh, along with eminent scientists, researchers, academicians, and students.
