TRAI Assesses Mobile Network Quality in Nashik and Nearby Areas
Posted On: 13 JAN 2026 12:07 PM by PIB Delhi
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of the Independent Drive Tests (IDTs) conducted in Nashik and surrounding areas during November 2025. The assessment covered the Nashik Licensed Service Area (LSA) and aimed to evaluate the real-world performance of mobile networks across diverse usage environments including urban areas, pedestrian zones, public transport hubs, hotspots, and highway corridors.
The drive tests were carried out under the supervision of TRAI’s Regional Office, Bengaluru, between 18 November and 21 November 2025, covering a total distance of 487.2 kilometers. This included 250.1 km of urban routes, 9 identified hotspots, 9.4 km of walk tests, and 227.7 km of highway routes. The performance of 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies was evaluated to reflect the user experience across different handset capabilities. The findings have been shared with all concerned Telecom Service Providers for necessary action.
Key Performance Parameters Evaluated
A) Voice Services:
Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Call Drop Rate (CDR), Call Setup Time (CST), Call Silence Rate, Speech Quality (MOS), and Coverage.
B) Data Services:
Download and Upload Throughput, Latency, Jitter, Packet Drop Rate, and Video Streaming Delay.
Voice Services Performance Summary
In auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G), the Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR) for Airtel, BSNL, RJIL (Jio), and VIL was 99.64%, 86.60%, 100.00%, and 94.66% respectively.
The Call Drop Rate (CDR) recorded was 0.00% for Airtel, 4.72% for BSNL, 0.71% for RJIL, and 0.94% for VIL, indicating superior call stability for private operators.
The Average Mean Opinion Score (MOS), reflecting voice quality, stood at 3.85 for Airtel, 2.98 for BSNL, 4.40 for RJIL, and 4.05 for VIL.
Data Services Performance Summary
The overall average download speed recorded was 193.31 Mbps for RJIL, 104.52 Mbps for Airtel, 59.74 Mbps for VIL, and 5.03 Mbps for BSNL.
The average upload speed was 26.21 Mbps for Airtel, 23.51 Mbps for RJIL, 15.92 Mbps for VIL, and 4.78 Mbps for BSNL.
Latency performance showed RJIL with the lowest median latency at 24.55 ms, followed by Airtel (39.90 ms), BSNL (37.79 ms), and VIL (40.71 ms).
Areas Covered During Testing
The assessment included high-density locations such as Nashik International Airport, Panchavati, Trimbakeshwar, Mumbai Naka, Indira Nagar, Pathardi Phata, Canada Corner, Nashik Road, and surrounding villages. Walk tests were conducted at Nashik Railway Station, Panchavati Ghat, Shalimar Market, and Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Bus Stand to evaluate network performance in crowded pedestrian environments.
Highway drive tests were carried out along routes connecting Nashik to Shirdi and Lasalgaon, passing through forest and rural stretches to assess service continuity.
The tests were conducted using calibrated equipment and standardized TRAI protocols in live network conditions. The detailed report is available on TRAI’s official website.
This assessment provides valuable insights for consumers searching for the best mobile network in Nashik, highlighting the comparative performance of major telecom operators across voice and data services.
