Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), retired on 31 December 2025, bringing to a close a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades of exemplary service to the nation.
Commissioned as a fighter pilot into the IAF on 7 June 1986, Air Marshal Tiwari accumulated over 3,600 hours of flying experience across a wide variety of aircraft. A qualified flying instructor and experimental test pilot, he is also a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, USA.

Operational Excellence and Key Contributions
During his illustrious career, Air Marshal Tiwari served in several critical command and staff appointments. His notable operational experience includes involvement in operational testing of advanced weapons and systems, including the deployment of the ‘Lightning’ Laser Designation Pod during the Kargil conflict in 1999.
He played an active role in various flight testing phases of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program, contributing significantly to India’s indigenous defence aviation capabilities.

He also represented India internationally as Air Attaché at Paris from 2013 to 2016.

Additionally, he served as Directing Staff at the IAF Test Pilots School, Wellington, and the Defence Services Staff College, shaping future generations of military leaders.
