Cabinet Approves ₹19,142 Crore Nashik–Solapur–Akkalkot Greenfield Corridor
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 374-kilometre-long, six-lane, access-controlled greenfield Nashik–Solapur–Akkalkot corridor in Maharashtra. The project will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) mode at a total cost of ₹19,142 crore.
This major infrastructure initiative aims to strengthen integrated transport connectivity in line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, connecting key regional cities such as Nashik, Ahilyanagar, and Solapur, and further linking them to Kurnool.
Strategic Connectivity and National Integration
The proposed corridor will be connected to:
-
Delhi–Mumbai Expressway near the Vadhavan Port interchange
-
Agra–Mumbai Corridor (NH-60) at Adegaon near Nashik
-
Samruddhi Mahamarg near Pangri (Nashik district)
This alignment will enable direct West Coast–East Coast connectivity, significantly enhancing freight and passenger movement. The corridor will integrate with ongoing four-lane highway projects between Chennai and Hasapur (Maharashtra border), creating a seamless logistics route across states.
Reduced Travel Time and Logistics Efficiency
The six-lane access-controlled corridor is designed to:
-
Reduce travel time by approximately 17 hours
-
Reduce travel distance by 201 km
-
Support average vehicle speeds of 60 kmph and a design speed of 100 kmph
This will result in faster, safer, and more cost-effective transportation for both passengers and freight. The project will also improve logistics efficiency for goods movement linked to NICDC industrial nodes at Kopparthi and Orvakallu.

Support for Industrial and Regional Growth
The Nashik–Talegaon Dighe section of the corridor also fulfills the requirement of the proposed Pune–Nashik Expressway, as identified by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and the Maharashtra Government.
By providing a high-speed, access-controlled highway with a closed tolling system, the project will ease congestion, reduce operational costs, and enhance road safety.
Employment Generation and Economic Impact
The project is expected to generate:
-
251.06 lakh man-days of direct employment
-
313.83 lakh man-days of indirect employment
Additionally, increased economic activity along the corridor is expected to create further employment opportunities and drive overall economic development in the districts of Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Dharashiv, and Solapur.
Conclusion
The Nashik–Solapur–Akkalkot six-lane greenfield corridor marks a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development journey. By enhancing connectivity, improving logistics efficiency, generating employment, and supporting regional growth, the project aligns with the Government of India’s vision of integrated, sustainable, and future-ready infrastructure under PM GatiShakti.
