Nearly ₹2 Lakh Crore Fertiliser Subsidy Digitised; A Major Push Towards Digital India
In a landmark move towards Digital India and Viksit Bharat, the Department of Fertilisers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, has decided to fully digitise nearly ₹2 lakh crore worth of annual fertiliser subsidy payments from the beginning of 2026.
The initiative was formally launched on 1 January 2026 by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilisers, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, from Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi.
Big Step Towards Viksit Bharat: JP Nadda
Addressing the occasion, Shri JP Nadda said that the digitisation of fertiliser subsidy is a significant milestone in achieving the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India and Viksit Bharat goals. He noted that complete digitalisation of the ecosystem will benefit fertiliser companies and, most importantly, millions of farmers across the country by ensuring faster and more transparent subsidy disbursement.
End-to-End Digital Ecosystem
Fertiliser Secretary Shri Rajat Kumar Mishra highlighted that the reform goes beyond eliminating paperwork. The new digital billing system uses advanced technology to integrate the entire process—from raw material procurement to final product delivery—onto a single platform, enabling real-time monitoring at every level.
iFMS-PFMS Integration
The Department of Fertilisers has integrated its Integrated Financial Management System (iFMS) with the Ministry of Finance’s existing Public Financial Management System (PFMS). All financial transactions involving PSUs, cooperative societies, and private fertiliser companies will now be processed digitally.
Chief Controller of Accounts (CCA) Shri Santosh Kumar stated that this achievement is the result of a strong technical partnership between iFMS and PFMS, ensuring complete digitisation of financial transactions and providing senior officials with real-time monitoring capabilities.
Faster Payments and Transparency
Joint Secretary (Finance & Accounts) Shri Manoj Sethi explained that the new system will eliminate delays in subsidy payments. Weekly subsidy releases will now be ensured on time through the e-Bill portal, allowing fertiliser companies to submit claims online and track payment status in real time. This will significantly reduce office visits and paperwork.
