As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has advised all recognized National Sports Federations (NSFs) to constitute dedicated committees on International Relations and ‘Make in India in Sports’ within their respective organizations.
The initiative aims to strengthen India’s global sports engagement and sports diplomacy, while promoting indigenous capabilities in line with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. National Sports Federations have been advised to constitute the International Relations Committee within 30 days and the ‘Make in India in Sports’ Committee within 60 days, and to inform the Ministry about their composition and scope of work.
To enhance India’s international sports participation, the International Relations Committee will monitor developments within International Federations (IFs) and Continental Federations (CFs), including changes in competition rules, governance structures, elections, and athlete-centric programs. The committee will also prepare a medium-term international cooperation plan covering bilateral and multilateral MoUs, joint training camps, exchange programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and opportunities for hosting international sporting events in India.
The committee will ensure that all international engagements align with Government of India policies, the Olympic Charter, and the statutes of International Federations, while adhering to principles of good governance, anti-doping compliance, and athlete safety. It will further strengthen collaboration with peer national federations and leading international sports research and academic institutions to secure world-class training opportunities and sports science support for Indian athletes.
Additionally, the committee will coordinate with international federations and related bodies to ensure timely participation in bidding processes for hosting events. All proposals for hosting international sporting events in India will be shared in advance with the Ministry for information and, where required, prior consultation or approval under existing guidelines.
The ‘Make in India in Sports’ Committee will be responsible for engaging with Indian manufacturers, startups, research institutions, and testing and standardization bodies to facilitate product development, testing, and certification in respective sports disciplines. This effort is expected to strengthen the domestic sports manufacturing ecosystem envisioned under the Make in India initiative.
The committee will also prepare periodic reports on the adoption of indigenous solutions, highlighting progress, challenges faced, and recommendations within National Sports Federations, with specific reference to contributions towards Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
For the International Relations Committee, federations have been advised to include senior federation members, former international athletes, coaches, and subject experts with proven experience in global sports administration and diplomacy. The committee’s structure and terms of reference are to be submitted to the Ministry within 30 days of issuance of the advisory.
For the ‘Make in India in Sports’ Committee, the composition should include senior federation members, technical experts, former international athletes, and at least one member with experience in sports equipment or technology, manufacturing, or standards. Details of the committee, including its structure, are to be communicated to the Ministry within 60 days.
