INS Sudarshini Arrives at Safaga Port, Egypt
The Indian Navy sailing training ship INS Sudarshini reached Safaga Port, Egypt, on 21 February 2026 as part of its ongoing Lokayan-26 overseas deployment.
The vessel completed a 1,832 nautical mile journey over 16 days from Salalah to Safaga, marking a significant milestone that showcased the resilience, confidence, and endurance of the ship’s crew.
Warm Welcome and Naval Engagements
Upon arrival, the ship was warmly received by officials of the Egyptian Navy and representatives of the Indian Embassy. The Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini met Rear Admiral Rami Ahmed Ismail Mohamed, Base Commander of the Red Sea and Safaga Naval Base.
The meeting emphasized the growing maritime partnership between India and Egypt and reflected a shared vision of enhanced naval cooperation and interoperability.
During the port stay, the Indian Navy will engage in professional interactions with Egyptian naval personnel, exchange best practices in sail training, and conduct community outreach activities aimed at strengthening bilateral goodwill.
Challenging Transit Through Strategic Waters
The voyage through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea marked a crucial operational phase. The ship successfully navigated challenging weather conditions and heavy maritime traffic, demonstrating high standards of seamanship and operational proficiency.
Strengthening India-Egypt Maritime Ties
The visit of INS Sudarshini to Safaga reaffirms the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime engagement under the “Maitri ke Setu” initiative. It highlights the strong and enduring ties between India and Egypt, further reinforcing cooperation in the strategically important Red Sea region.
